SINGAPORE, 3 November 2011 – This November, Singapore’s first and only night expedition on the Segway® Personal Transporter makes its debut in Sentosa. Also known as Gogreen After Dark (GAD) – Haunting of Blakang Mati, the spine-chilling adventure explores the dark, captivating past of Sentosa (formerly known as Pulau Blakang Mati).

Organised by Gogreen Holdings, GAD – Haunting of Blakang Mati promises a chance to travel back in time to 18th Century Sentosa, home to many merciless pirates, and to trace the origins of Pulau Blakang Mati. Re-live Sentosa’s beginnings by visiting the magnificent gun emplacements, the coastal trail and other intriguing landmarks such as the original site of the Dragon’s Teeth Gate.

Ms Janice Lim, Vice President, Gogreen Holdings Private Limited, said: “Gogreen After Dark - Haunting of Blakang Mati is not only a thrilling night ride on the Segway® PT, but it also explores the island’s legends and provides an exciting journey to hidden areas and Sentosa’s forgotten past.”

“Our supporters have been asking us to introduce a longer Segway experience. We are confident that this will be the coolest new night activity for locals and tourists in Singapore.”

1 The island’s Malay name, Blakang Mati is literally translated as “behind, the dead” (blakang means “behind” and mati means “dead”). There are several stories for the island’s sinister name, all of which are associated to “death”. According to one legend, the island got its name because of the piracy and bloodshed which once pervaded the island. As the name implies, anecdotal evidence suggests that the island is haunted and this was one of the reasons why the name was changed to Sentosa (which means “isle of tranquility”).
